Msi afterburner readings

So, I have been using MSI afterburner for quite a while now, probably 2-3 years. However, I have noticed that ever since I switched from my i5 4690k to my i7 6700k, the cpu temperature reading has been somewhat erratic. The temperature jumps anywhere from 52c to 64c without incremental changes. For example, after 1 poll it will be 54c and then the next poll it will be 63c. I am not exactly sure why this is happening, my guess is maybe it would have something to do with the hyperthreaded cores? Is this normal? I have my cpu at stock with turbo on a z170 pro gaming and cooled my a corsair h90.
