LC/SC Fiber

Go to solution Solved by Lurick,

That will work just fine. We use extensions all the time in our lab to go from LC to SC. Just couple the two LC sides together using something like this:

and so long as both cables are Single Mode or Multi-Mode then it will be just fine. Heck we even go from the blue 50nm to orange 65nm cables every now and again and it works, although I wouldn't advise it for long runs, for short runs it works great.

Hi, all. I am running LC duplex multimode OM4 50/125 between a few floors in a building. All connected switches use SFP connectors except for one -- a Cisco 4507, which uses a ws-g5484 1000BASE-SX (SC fiber) GBIC. If I get an SC/LC passive adapter like this, will it work properly, assuming the transceivers are using same wavelength? Or would I need an active adapter to convert the signal? And, are there any other factors that contribute to compatibility? Thanks in advance.

That's awesome to know. Thanks for the helpful info, Lurick.
