AMD has several competitors including Intel corporation and Nvidia corporation.
Intel is AMD's primary CPU designer competitor in the consumer and enterprise market and they're customer base is considerably higher than that of AMD.
Nvidia is AMD's primary GPU designer competitor in the consumer and enterprise markets. Nvidia however has expanded beyond the traditional product categories and has started to design products for cars and automation. Nvidia's customer base is significantly higher than that of AMD.

They have made their technology more accessible by lowering the barrier to entry for both their graphics cards and central processing units. They offer a wide range of products to allow customers to purchase their products at a price suitable for them.
They have provided open source drivers for their graphics cards and have developed support across multiple platforms and operating systems to help the community.
They also introduce and create new technology and allows others to utilize it.

The company became successful by providing both excellent value and excellent products to customers. This allows many customers to be able to purchase their products however they also offer high end products which represent the best that they are capable of designing and producing.
They have created both original products and products which implanted an extension to an existing product such as that of the computer architecture known as x86-64. Because of certain events, they have been the only company which is licensed to produce products implementation x86-64 in their products and this has let disgruntled Intel customers to seek an alternative solution.

The company faces financial challenges to meet funding goals and revenue goals for their products as their competitors are often more successful than them. Despite this, they are forced to innovate if they wish to remain in the industry.
This was not helped by the acquisition of ATI, the graphics card competitor to Nvidia at the time, and corporate espionage. Additionally, some PC manufacturers such as Dell, HP and other companies have been given financial incentives by former Intel executives and CEOs for not using AMD's products.
