You could if you want to, but your taking a chance on that chip that may or may not get that high ( unless your buying of a friend) Plus newer architecture and better IPC (although minor they are still there) among other efficiency and speedy boot times. Server boards can be slow to boot :P

Only go with the Xeon if you have a X58 motherboard already or can find a complete build for 400-500 bucks on craigslist. Otherwise just build something new and spend a little more, but yeah the performance is still great on those chips.

I've found a deal with an x5650 10gb ddr3 and an x58 motherboard for 300 pounds. Should I leave it or go for it, also if it matters I aim to play forza horizon 3 at 1080 ultra and aim for 60fps with my 1060 6gb

I think the answer here is not as simple as yes and now, in some cases no, it wont, the 6600 has a better IPC, so in an optimized scenario where the game is able to make good use of its 4 cores, or its more optimized to have a 2 threaded workload the 6600 will outperform the X5650 due to the better IPC since it can turbo to 3.9 Ghz (but not by a whole lot if the x5650 is oc'ed at 4 Ghz). With that said here's why it will outperform the 6600, we also need to take into consideration background services, and with games that can use properly 4 cores or more, the decent IPC of the X5650, will make it a clear winner in this regard. This is pretty much why i went with an FX8300 rather then getting a cheap i5 or an i3, while i might not be able to gain as much performance from the FX8300 in gaming as with an i5 or i3 at my settings i benefit more from the extra cores and having my background stuff not affecting the least my gaming experience.

I'm not a fan of getting used parts but the 5650 does sound like sweet deal.

K thx for ur opinion might go for it, bit just realised that the 6600 has a 2yr warranty @ cex
