With an APS-C sensor camera like the D3100, you will need to stop down the aperture. Learn about using hyperfocal distance, it can help you in achieving a deep DOF without having to use extremely small apertures. That is not dead which can eternal lie. Posted January 1, 2017 if you dont want shallow dof, just stop down your aperture. That is really the only way. A wide angle adapter will severely degrade image quality.
