Is it normal for a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 1060 6GB to reach 75 degrees celsius while under load?

Is it normal? My 1060 once hit 78 degrees celsius while I was playing DOOM with every setting maxed out. I would like to add that I don't have a custom fan curve and that I'm not overclocking.

Yeah it is normal for an intensive game like Doom. Don't worry your card won't be doomed at all

Question 1: What about GTAV? My GPU is around 75 degrees celsius while running that game. My resolution setting is 2560x1080 and my video settings are set to very high except for grass and particles which are set to normal.

Question 2: What are the benefits of having a custom fan curve?

I'm quite paranoid right now so I'm sorry if these questions annoy you.

If your ambient is pretty high then yes totally normal.  In case you overclocked your GPU the 75C is totally normal. I run mine with factory OC (1923Mhz)

My GTX MSI GAMING X 1060 hasnt gone above 70C yet but I dont play on 60fps. I have lower settings (high/very high) for 100+ . But it only hits the high temp for like a minute until fans cool it down back to 60-65C.

My idle temperature is around 40 degrees celsius.

Then its to be expected. Thats damn high ambient :D Mine is 20-23C.

GPU can handle higher temps than CPU so even at 80C you would be within the temp limit.

I'm sorry. I meant idle temperature instead of ambient temperature.

The thing is, my GPU's fans don't run when it's idle'ing. It's fans start running when it reaches 60 degrees celsius.

You still sound worried. Stop worrying. As other people already assured you all is OK there is no factual reason to freak out.

Like people said, the card can handle this temperature. The card will throttle itself down only if it reaches temps somewhere in the 80C, and even that wouldn't be a problem!

The fact that the fans start running when it reaches 60 degrees is also no problem, as it states it, it's by design.

Now enjoy some more DOOM and leave the worries behind! :-)

Idle temps at 75C are awfully high. Do you have your case fans and GPU fans running when you play games? Is this "idle temperature" right after you play a game?

If you're exceeding 80C then you're doing something wrong as 1060s shouldn't get that hot.

I said my idle temperature is 40 degrees celsius not 75.
