VPN "speed" increase

Hello guys, I've got my own VPN connection at my house in Birmingham. I've setup VPN on my Windows 2012 R2 server. The ISP I'm using is Virgin Media 50Mbps. I wanted to know if I could get higher "speeds" when connected via the VPN? I'm currently visiting my parents I need to access my network.

Technically you shouldn't get better speeds using a vpn (after all it's just one more link in the chain). However as service providers have been known to "shape" traffic to certain services (illegal as fuck, but proving it is a bitch, and a long, drawn out affair) It's completely possible that connecting to a vpn might speed up certain services.

If it's OpenVPN, disable file buffering.

Well if the internet at his parents' place is that slow I guess it can't be helped.

Parents have 50Mbps as well. But from BT no virgin Media.

its prob because your upload at home  isnt as fast
