This is the second PC that I will be building, and right now I have everything for my setup except for a GPU and monitor.

For my PC components, what I have sitting on my desk next to me is:

i7 6700k

Corsair hxi 1000w PSU

EVGA z170 Motherboard

Corsair Vengence LPX 32gb DDR4 RAM 3200MHz

Corsair H100i v2 CPU Cooler

Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD

Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD

Enthoo Evolv ATX Tempered Glass Case

Windows 10 64-Bit

I already got myself a nice desk and DXRacer, too.  The issue is that I am struggling with what to do with my GPU.  I'm torn between going and just getting a 1080 hybrid or holding out for the 1080ti hybrid.  If possible, I'd like to have my new system up and running within the next month, and I have doubts that I will be able to purchase a 1080ti hybrid in that time frame.  I'm not in a huge rush, but I must confess that I'd like to join the 4k gaming world sooner than later.

The other decision that I am struggling with is what monitor to get.  I'm looking at the Acer x34a vs the Asus PG348Q - besides the design, I don't really see any decernable differences between the two.

Any insight/opinions on where to proceed from here?  As a recently single millennial, money is not an enormous object to me anymore lmao.

**I do not really want to get a Titan X, either.  The cooler that thing comes with seems to be pretty average for a premium card, and I do not want to go throug the trouble of installing a hybrid kit myself.  I recently moved and do not possess the tools/skill set to mod anything with the kind of precision that I would be comfortable with.  When it comes to a $1,200 GPU, I do not feel comfortable with spit balling my way through getting it setup the way I want.  I'd rather just get a ready to go hybrid.

All the best,

Vile

Go with the 1080 for now. I doubt the TI will be out until February at the earliest IMO. You could always go with a vendor like EVGA who offers a step up program. It basically works like this. You have I believe 90 days? (Dont quote me on this portion) from the original date of purchase to upgrade to the next step up for the price difference of what you paid and what that card is currently selling for.

wait a bit for 1080 ti i feel like it will be worth it

So, I just looked into the step up program and found that any customized versions of the cards are not eligible.  In other words, if I purchase a 1080 Hybrid, it will not be eligible to trade up for a 1080 ti.  Bummer.

You may be right in the fact that waiting is the thing to do here.  I'll be pretty bummed out if the 1080 ti hybrid isn't available in January.

GTX 1070/GTX1080 are what would match your processor.  EVGA is a good brand.

Forgive my ignorance - can you provide more detail on this?  In the research I have done, which is admittedly not complete, I have read of people seeing marked improvement when going from a 1080 to a titan x, all the while using an i7 6700k.  Granted, the % in performance increase they saw certainly fell well short of the % of price they paid extra, but I digress.

Thanks for your response so far.  I am grateful for the insight.

EVGA has gone down hill pretty fast recently, not sure I'd go with them.

The 1080ti is rumored to have a program for 980ti owners that gives them credit and first dips on the card, and as the Vega architecture should be out soon a cheap used 980ti might be something to look into. You could ether sell it for a Vega card or trade it in on a 1080ti.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
