AVG sales executive is demanding my Debit Card Number, Name and Expiration date for a purchase.

I was asking for a discounted price but the AVG representative told me that he/she could give me the discount if I proceed ahead by providing my Debit card number, Name and the expiration date. They didn't ask for ant PIN though. Should I go with that or not?

Come on guys... AVG ain't that bad... Sure it tries to add extra bloatware on your PC at every opportunity it gets and if you're not paying attention you'll end up installing it, but as a security suite it does the job.

Though paying for it is foolish. I just this 1 year free trial key with the "paid" download version of their Internet Security package.

I was able to get a 2 year unlimited device boxed copy of AVG Internet Security for $5 on Black Friday from Amazon.com.  I haven't used it yet but I plan to put it on my secondary desktop, old laptop, and since it seems to be Mac compatible on my Mac Mini too.  

 

Should be a nice way to give some active protection to my non-main computers so I'm not forced to stick with free versions that offer little/no active protection or pay for more copies of other more expensive AV than AVG.

That's a pretty good deal for 5$, especially the "unlimited devices"  for 2 years part.

Personally I make the firewall "interactive", as in, it ask whenever an application wants internet access (first time only, unless you specify it to ask every time). It's great to prevent adware from being able to communicate with their servers and display ads on your PC. I'm of the mentality that if a software has no legitimate reason to connect to the internet, it should be blocked. A software doesn't need to check for "updates" every 5 minutes.

Yeah it was considering it was $30 normally I think.  Or at least $30 after the lightning deal ended.

 

Is the AVG Internet security firewall like that by default or some setting you have to adjust?

 

 

Yeah I agree.  Too many things are checking for updates far too often.  

 

I'm wondering though, if you set the firewall so that the first time a program tries to go through the firewall you have the option to allow or block it, what do you do when you actually want to let it check for an update here and there?
