I know but an i5 6600K would have been fine for this system.

Oh yeah, totally, but if he's not going to put the money elsewhere he might as well get an i7 I suppose.

You can't get much higher end than the EVGA G2, its already a tier 1 psu.

I know, I have a G2 myself. It looks like OP posted an 850 G2 and the user I quoted mentioned a 500 G2 (does that even exist?), so if OP chose a 500w I would recommend a higher-end (in terms of more power) PSU.

because i think water cooler in this pc is overkill

The air cooler would sort of be under-kill, I think.

G Skill Ripjaws to Corsair Vengeance

EVGA 500G2 to CORSAIR RM550x

He already purchased the build..

The build is good but the 6700k was a waste of money and you should have had a 1070 in this build.

Jesus, a bit much for a 13 year old, don't you think?

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a nice build, but... damn. I guess I'm just slightly jealous that a 13 year old has a more powerful build than I do :P

That's a nice build and all, but that's overkill even for me, a 15 year old. The best GPU I can afford is a GTX 1050 Ti and I can't even convince my parents to let me get one. He is one lucky person.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Everyone that is saying this is overkill should stop. You don't know how much money this guy has and if he's able to get the best then why not? I feel like everyone saying it's overkill is just jealous.

The i7 is not overkill and age has nothing to do with whether the kid can and should have an i7. This might enable him to get into video/photo editing. If not, its still a platform that should last him 4-5 years, and that's great when there's new tech stuff every 5 minutes. The i5 could possibly have half the i7's usable lifespan.

Only thing I would personally change is that mobo, I would get a z170A or something like that and spend the rest on a 1070. Maybe a smaller PSU, like a 750W if mobo savings don't get you there. The ram thing, just go with the cheapest from a reputable brand in the capacity and clock you're after, and tbh, clocks don't even make that much of a difference.

Regardless, I assume you have no option any longer, so all I can say is happy computing!

6700k|Hyper 212 EVO|Asus Z170 Deluxe|GTX970 STRIX|16gb 2400mhz Teamgroup memory|Samsung 950 PRO+ 2TB Seagate HDD| CM Realpower M1000|H440
