Asus strix 1080 question

phoon
Go to solution Solved by Festive,

I disagree with people saying don't buy the 1080 for 1080p. What I would say is that you don't need it for 1080p/60 but 1080p/144 is fine. While you do in fact have a 60hz panel I would definitely say you should get something like an RX 480/ GTX 1060. Either of those will push 60fps On all titles at ultra and will do just fine for recording.

Here in Canada the strix 1080 o8g (oc) is 1090$ but I can get it for 960$ because I work someplace...But anyways I have a choice between the oc and non oc versions the 1080 should I get the oc...is it worth...The non oc is 30$ cheaper and I only do 1080p gaming but I record a lot of game play at 1080p 60fps so help make my decision...The oc is out of stock btw so do I wait and pay 30$ extra?

My PC is a fast boyo:

6700K - 32GB - 1080 - 256GB EVO

^^You don't need more info than this right?^^

Get the non OC version then overclock it yourself.
Or let GPU Boost 3.0 do its thing and it'll boost up anyway.

Honestly you won't need a 1080 for 1080p 60fps recording, a 1070 and probably even a 1060/rx480 could handle that.

If you only play at 1080p, don't get a 1080. I own a 1070 and it absolutely crushes 1080p (only got the 1070 because I plan on getting a 1440p panel soon). A 1060 6GB will probably serve you very well.

My non oc card boosted higher then my friends oc version. That's all part of then lottery but it also isn't gonna make much of a difference. Especially at 1080p

Your money bro. You won't see a difference until you step up that monitor, but at least the potential is there.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

you know that you can flash the Strix OC bios onto the Strix non OC card and save yourself a bit of money

Why? Most of the time they boost the same anyway without risky bios swaps.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
