[PSA] Avoid Cheap Laptop Chargers!

They are crap, for many reasons.

1. The cables are generally of poor quality.

2. They rarely output the rated power

3. The outputs are generally quite noisy

4. The isolation is sometimes dubious in the transformers

5. They sometimes don't have any thermal cutoffs...

I'd only reccomend OEM chargers or chargers from known names, like UPC, Delta, Rocketfish, Insignia, iGo... Just to name a few.

If it feels really cheap and plasticky, throw them away.

i thought this was common sense, it appareantly isnt :o

if it's notably cheaper and lighter (especially the latter) theres probably a "good reason" for that.

You guys would be surprised at the sheer quantity of these things we've got at work that people send in with their laptops

Why not buy used brand name adapters, like Dell, HP and so on?

Why would you buy generic no name adapters?

Its common sense really. However common sense is not so common. Too many fucking stupid people out there.

Most the time its not even the batteries that cause the issue, its people using parts that shouldnt be put together or not having enough knowledge on what theyre actually using.

For example a mech mod where the battery makes direct contact with the atty, but using an atty that has a receding 510, meaning the ground and power "connector" for the atty are touching the battery, seen it happen far too many times.

Or another example is people buying a box mod/mech mod kit, sticking a 0.1-0.2 ohm coil on it without knowing anything about ohms law, and using batteries that only have about a 10amp output, recipe for disaster for a newbie.

actually, a really reliable way of deciding wether a battery is a fake is by weighing them, fake cells almost always weigh less. (inb4 someone at shenzhen reads this and starts putting lead in their fake cells)

because the off brand ones are cheaper.

people may have 2000 dorrars to pay for their brand new shiny laptop, but they remain cheapskates for everything else, including replacement chargers.

You can tell it's a crap charger by the lack of certification logos that they should have.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Well I suppose having them doesn't guarantee it's good then, but not having them still means it's bad xD
