Looking for the best modem to go with this router?

chowderblue

Hey so i'm trying to find a modem for this router but can't seem to find any good standalone ones and the one i found seems like it would bottleneck the router. are there any ones better than this or would go with this router?

Modem compatibility can be annoying, make sure it works with your ISP before purchase. Or be lazy and just use the ISP modem in bridge mode (what I usually do)

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

Your modem does not bottleneck your router, your modem bottlenecks your ISP's speed. The ethernet cable you use/the wifi capabilities of your devices will bottleneck your router.

I am guessing you have a 100mb/s download and 10mb/s upload, so therefore your modem would need to be capable of 100mb/s.

Here is one for under $50

Not nessarlily. We pay for 75/10 from Comcast and get 90/12 most days. Some ISP's over provision speeds.

@chowderblue I have the Motorola SB6141 and its been solid. The only reason to get anything higher is for faster speeds. DOCSIS 3.0 or Higher cable modems do channel bonding. The more channels the modem supports the faster the speeds. My modem is an 8x4 modem. That means 8 down stream and 4 up stream channels. I know my modem should be able to hit over 100Mbps, Comcast doesn't do that for us in the area however. Also, I cant remember which modem, but one of the Motorola modems have been having serious firmware issues, at least on the Comcast network. I think its the 6190. It may have been fixed, I just know people were having connection issues.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
