Partition boot drive or CD drive

Josh Voyles

Thanks in advance! First time posting.

In short, I have an ASUS G550JK-DS71 that I plan on using for video editing with Premiere or Resolve.

I'm going to replace the boot drive with an SSD for sure, but would it be better to do the following for better editing performance:

1. Use boot drive also for my project files and rendering?

2. Partition the boot drive and use the partition for project files and rendering.

3. Use SSD as boot drive and replace the optical cd drive with an SSD to read and render files.

The reason I ask is because the boot drive can get SATA III speeds while the optical drive SATA II.

i think the better thing to do would be to get a caddy (like this) to put your boot drive into for a scratch drive, then put the SSD into where the main drive is now. SATA II speeds aren't too horrible if you're not using it as a secondary drive.

Thanks, I hadn't really considered that.

Here's the caddy I'm looking at getting. http://hddcaddy.com/en/asus-hdd-caddy/1199-asus-g550jk-hdd-caddy.html
