Clone with macrium reflect without cloning all folders

kir13y

A just got a new SSD for my laptop and I would like to clone all of my stuff from my HDD to the SSD.  The HDD is 1TB and the SSD is only 500GB.  The problem is that the SSD is not big enough to copy everything.  I am about 20GB over and my steam library takes up wayyy more than that.  How do I clone the HDD without the steam folder?

I have deleted some games so that the 1TB drive is about 400GB.  I am still getting an error that there is insufficient space even though there is an extra 60GB.  How do I fix this?

You need to shrink the partition. This can be done from the Disk Management window.

Which partition needs shrinking?  The main OS from the old drive?

All partitions need to be shrunk for the cloned "from" drive.

Pretty much. The long way would have been to shrink, create, move folders to the new partition, clone, and then delete the OS partition and then extend again. It's more of a hassle than it's worth.

I would search for MiniTool Partition Wizard. It'll help you do it much faster than I would through diskpart.
