Buy 1070 or wait?

Go to solution Solved by App4that,

Wait, even if you end up with a 1070 AMD launching the Vega architecture and therefore competing in the mid to high end market will drop prices.

I have saved up some money and have some more on the way. So I might be able to afford a gtx 1070 (I want a freesync/amd card but they aren't as strong for the same price).

Do you think I should buy gtx 1070 or wait for next generation? My current gpu is 280x. I play mainly Skyrim Special Edition and Overwatch. 1080p 144hz.

The R9 280X still has a lot of life in it, I'd wait.

For what you use it for currently the R9 280X will probably last you a while. I'm still on a GTX 760 and Athlon 760K. :P

You basically use yours for the same workload I use mine for.

I had an account called Joegeddon active since April 20th 2015

If the monitor in your signature is accurate and you have no plans of upgrading it, then no. I wouldn't bother getting a GTX 1070. In fact, as long as your games perform adequately with what you do have (and they should), you really don't have a reason to upgrade.

I'd personally only get a GTX 1070 if I'm gaming at 4K (consider a GTX 1080 if 4K), 1440p, or high refresh rate 1080p, or I was planning on upgrading to such a setup.

Nah, in practice. Look at the 470 and 460. The prices responded to the launch of the 1050ti. Prices always respond to competition.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

For me, it depends on your games. Would you need something of that power? (1070) because if not, I see no point in paying more for all that unused power.

More fps = more stable 144hz experience.

Right, wasn't sure if you played any triple a titles or anything. As everyone has said, 280x is good enough for those games, but if you need more fps or play other games/ plan on playing eating other games, I'm wondering if a 1060 or a 480 will fit your needs Vs spending more on a 1070.

I don't think I will upgrade again for a minimum of 2-3 years so I want the strongest gpu I can afford. I suppose I could wait, I am used to this anyways.
