help and advice please

Go to solution Solved by Kiwiandapple,

Thanks for the recommendations that case and cooling system looks sweet will be getting those. as for the rest of the parts i have chosen to take a few things from each post with the exception of the mobo and cpu, im looking at cheaper msi and intel i5's as suggested by @FloRolf as i have these brands in my current pc and they seem to have out lived friends AMD systems by 3-4 years (shows how old the pc im using now is) and im just sticking to what i have experianced from their reliability however im sure much has changed. Should be making my first order on monday and thanks again for everyone who posted here.

edit: oops before i forget what thermal compound would you recommend as im not sure how good the coolmaster stuff will be.

Here are the edits with MSI board and Intel: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1Wnp3 @WoodenMarker made a very good build for the price tho. Only maybe swap out the HD for the Seagate barracuda.

Personally I have not heard much bad about MX-4 thermal paste. So thats the one to suggest, Linus did a test with like 4 thermal pastes that were sold at NCIX and MX-4 won.

Hi guys im looking to build a new pc mostly for gaming.

here are the parts i have chosen could you please look them over for me and give suggestions, also can anyone name any good uk suppliers.

thanks in advance.

you dont really need the hyperthreading that the i7 has, also 2400MHz is totaly overkill for gaming, 1600 is more than enough

get the k edition cpu (Edit: or an i5 if you are just gaming)

step the psu down to 550 or 650w unless you want to sli later on

get 1600 or 1866 memory, 2400 isnt worth it

take a 1tb HDD, they usually dont cost that much more than a 500gb one

get a nice 120gb ssd for the os.

maybe you can even get another msi GD board with red/black colour scheme for less money.

Get the K version proc, and drop the PSU to an M12ii based 650W. That's RAM is overkill to the max, and no SSD?

Get a K cpu and a kraken x60 or an h100i (whichever your case supports) also, try for the 780 lightning if you can afford it.

Thanks for the video freaky_spider i must have missed that one. Will definitely look in to 1TB HDD, SSD and RAM. would a corsair cxm 600w modular 80 plus be a good power supply?

(edit: sorry forgot to put the K after 4770)

The cx600m is a decent psu for the money--depends on pricing at the time.  Btw, you need to quote a post or tag a member or else they won't get a notification you replied to them.

The cooler isn't worth the money for a cpu oc just for gaming.

Regarding your build, getting an i7 over an i5 or getting high speed memory does little to nothing for gaming.

@HouzerUK What's your budget?

@HouzerUK What's your budget?

Firstly as for the psu after a lot of digging i found a corsair rm650w for almost the same as the 600 so i may choose to go with that as its more efficent. Other parts include Corsair Vengeance 8GB and WD 1TB hhd to replace the items on my list. As for my budget its about £1000 - £1200 max (i think thats about $1850usd?) but i will try keeping costs as low as i can. My main problem is the case, i like the four fans and red/black colour of the CiT Vantage Type-R but having seen one on youtube it looks a lot smaller than i thought it would be any ideas?

oh and thanks for the heads up on quoting.

My recommendations: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1WciD

Remove the stock case and heatsink fans..

Use the sickleflows instead. 1 fore the 212 Evo, 1 for rear case exhaust, and 2 for front intake.

Personally I have not heard much bad about MX-4 thermal paste. So thats the one to suggest, Linus did a test with like 4 thermal pastes that were sold at NCIX and MX-4 won.

No problem, happy building! Do make a few pictures if you can and post them in the build log! !Be aware, they are very rough on cable management I heard. But with the RM series this should look very clean.

I really want to see a build in the Arc Midi R2 with red/black color scheme to see how it looks. I suggested this a bunch and want to see how it actually looks.

Gigabyte, Msi, and Asus are the big three and are great brands for mobos.

Also, your friends are not a big enough sample size to base your decision off of. The reason the intel builds lasted longer are probably because they spent much more money on them. This would probably not be the case if an equal amount of money were spent on the builds you're comparing.

Personally I have not heard much bad about MX-4 thermal paste. So thats the one to suggest, Linus did a test with like 4 thermal pastes that were sold at NCIX and MX-4 won.

No need for aftermarket paste. The Hyper 212 Evo comes with good paste.

You sure? I went with the Antec psu for the red logo.

Ow, I honestly had no idea ha. I only watched video's off comparisons etc, never actually did an unboxing. my bad! noted. Still it's oke to use the MX-4, it's really good! But indeed not needed.

Will probably be about 2-3 weeks before its done as i still have some building work in my garage to complete first so finding time at weekends maybe difficault. But dont worry i will definitely upload some pic's for you when its done. @WoodenMarker i really do appreciate you sticking to the colour scheme so well and finding all those nice parts, but am hoping a gold certified psu will save some pennies in its lifetime plus its fully modular. Will tag you both when i post images so cya soon guys.
