Cpu cooler broke need to wait to monday for shipping for a replacement but i dont think ive gone 4 days without using a PC since my bahama vacation 3 years ago

right now after just turning it on with no cooler (h80i cooler is on but the pump is broken) its at 50 degrees thats with chrome but after 10-15 minutes it shoots up to 80 degrees in chrome but 60-70 idle

If i maintain 80-85 degrees C for.. lets say an hour at a time would i damage my cpu?

Those aren't critical temperatures but it's ill advised. Your CPU most likely came with a stock heatsink (unless it's a very high end chip) didn't it? Any chance that's still around?

up till under 90C should be fine. Just be careful to monitor it. Maybe underclock your CPU or disable some cores to cool it down while you wait

go back for a short weekend holiday. The modern world sucks without a computer

I wouldnt run without a cooler but I have let my computer over heat on several occasions; my motherboard shuts down when temps get over 90C. I think you risk damaging your motherboard more than your CPU with high temps

But which CPu are we talking about? The maximum temp a CPU can handle depends on the model - an FX chip above 80 would be on its way to the morgue...

In that case, intel says keep it under 67, although I'm not sure what all their temperature measures are (Tcase in this case). But cpu-world seems to take is as the max operating temperature.

K CPUs don't

The moment I saw the post that said 3930K I knew he didn't get one with the CPU.

It is the maximum temperature recommendation as measured at the heat spreader. Basically, the metal lid of the chip should not get any hotter.
