And what do you think is a more likely outcome, that CEOs will give up their bonuses or that they'll just make sure elsewhere?

Change won't ever happen if everyone just gives up and accepts being stepped on.

But you can. You can't raise a family off a single minimum wage job, and you can't live in a big city nor can you afford a giant house, but you can live in a small apartment in the suburbs, you just won't have much in the way of savings or superfluous expenditures.

No you can't.  Seriously look it up if you don't believe me.  Minimum wage anywhere in the country leaves a person below the poverty line.  This means it is a fact that minimum wage is not enough.

Here read this:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/minimum_wage/6_october_2016_min_wage_report-final.pdf

I trust you'll accept this as a trustworthy source of information.

Some further reading to help:

https://www.thebalance.com/living-wage-3305771

Also as the last arrived mentions a livable wage is not the same term as minimum wage and livable just means you won't be on the streets and can afford to live in more than just select areas that are barely cheap enough.

It is also insufficient because a living wage while enough to mean a decent yet basic standard of living does not allow for what I consider necessities such as being able to afford education loans and saving money for emergencies.

People deserve enough money at minimum that will allow them to save for emergency needs like medical bills and to pay for higher education (college) or training (trades like welding or electrician)  that will allow them to better themselves economically and be on more stable footing.

Millions of people in this country want that chance to improve their lot in life but lack the economic means to do it.

If people adopt a defeatist attitude like you nothing will ever get better.

And you can LIVE off of a McDonald's job. You just won't live a life of luxury, but you can LIVE in an apartment in the suburbs and you can afford to eat. You shouldn't expect more from a job like a McDonald's cashier.

Not to derail the thread but not really. I suppose it depends on the country, but here you can't. Not even close.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

No, but forcing McDonald's to pay $15/hour isn't going to slow down that process.

I'd actually be for forcing McDonald's to pay that much, not really cuz I care about low skilled ppl making a living wage, but more for ROBOTS! Stick or carrot? This is the stick. And as a programmer this actually means more jobs for ppl like me.

Not quite. Take a look into this report from last year.

Maybe, and here's just an idea, don't have kids if you're a single parent working a minimum wage job. Sure, it sounds harsh, but a person should have some personal responsibility and shouldn't be putting themselves into a position where they're going to be unable to support themselves.
