need a bit of an advice concerning samsung 960 evo

mito551

I hope this question isn't too dumb. I want to upgrade my pc a little bit this holiday season and I want to get samsung 960 evo 1tb. but my motherboard doesn't have m.2 slot, so I will be buying a pcie adapter for it. I want to complete my upgrade next year, intel 8000 series, ram, mobo. the question is, how much of a durability issue can there be in both scenarios: i stick my m.2 ssd with the adapter and use it as my OS drive (if and only if my mobo supports it). otherwise how much worse would it be to buy it now and just let it sit around next year as compared to actually buying it with the mobo, ram, cpu next year? i heard that ssds will get more expensive, so i don't see a reason to hold out, but I'm concerned about its life span/durability and performance compared to the newest, hot off the shelf unit.

@mito551 I'd personally would get the 960 Evo right now. But, unless you like to always have the latest stuff, then you'd have to wait. The thing is, new SSDs release relatively quickly and (in my opinion) its a waste to just keep waiting for the next series to have faster speeds and new features. I'd prefer to get the best out of my money right now unless you know a new series will be out very, very soon. :)

absolutely agree, thank you for answering. my two biggest concerns here are: the price that is predicted to rise on ssds (due to nand shortages) and that my mobo can't run an OS off of a PCIE storage. couldn't find info on the internet about it. so i don't know if there's a reason to get an ssd now.
