GTX 750ti Sudden Loss of Performance.

About two months ago I built a new rig, I have had no problems with it and it gamed well. But just in the last week or so I have noticed a significant drop in performance when gaming, usually it can run CS:GO in 1080p, High Settings at around 200fps but now I can only achieve about 80fps averaging out at around 40fps and sometimes dropping below 20fps,and occasionally to 0. This can make gaming quite an un-pleasant experience.

Motherboard: ASUS H170 Pro

CPU:Intel Pentium G4400

Memory: 2x 4GB Hyper-x Fury DDR4 2133MHz

Graphics Card: ASUS GTX 750ti

Power Supply: Corsair VS550 (550w)

Try rolling back your graphics drivers. Also, make sure you aren't running on the iGPU

Did you update the drivers? 

 

Try uninstalling the drivers using DDU and reinstalling. If that doesn't work, uninstall drivers and roll back.

Is anything else running? Did you make any changes recently? Whats your CPU/GPU usage/temps?

1. Check if you're running on the iGPU.
2. Check again.
3. Run MSI Afterburner to check up on GPU clock speed and temperatures.
4. If the temperatures are high and the clock speeds low, the card is throttling.
5. Check to see if the GPU fans are working. In fact, on second thought, check that first.

I'd say order is less important than just checking all those points

I find that giving someone a list of 'steps' results in them actually checking everything. On the other hand, when provided with bullet points, users don't actually check everything, and something they missed is usually the source of the problem.

 

However, this does sound like a throttling issue to me.

So I've uninstalled and re-installed drivers, and although I have noticed minor improvements, it is not back to performing how it should be.

 

While playing a game of CS:GO Arms Race I had NZXT Cam running as I find it great for monitoring hardware when gaming. I made sure no un-necessary programs were running, and that the gpu fan was spinning. For the first 2 minutes of the game the card was running at 1056MHz, at 49c and fps in between 60-80.The card then dropped down to 880MHz, at 40c and about 40fps, this lasted for around 4 minutes and the majority of the game. Towards the end of the game I noticed an increase in performance with the card running at 1108MHz at 43c and 85fps.

 

Although this does seem like throttling to me, the temps are relatively low.
