PhysX Card for 1080 in Borderlands 2 & Pre-Sequel

Inrix
Go to solution Solved by Vadise,

I'd recommend you stay within Pascal architecture, since your main card is a 1080. Go with a 1050, 1050TI or 1060. (But see if you can borrow any of these first to try like zMeul said, this could slow your main card down unless you find a perfect match for it.)

Before I get into the thread, please dont talk about whether its worth it or not.

I play alot of borderlands 2 and the pre sequel and even with my 1080 the difference between running with physx maxed and physx minimum is massive. Overall with physX at max my max fps is around 130, but as soon as I get into a fight it quickly starts dipping into the 30-32fps range during explosions or alot of shooting. But with physx off I get a buttery 160-170+ max fps and a minimum of 80, though it stayed closer to 100.

So basically at this point Im considering spending around 200 nzd for a physx card. Possibly the 750ti as its said to be one of the best everywhere I look... What do you think would be the best one to get? If you want a place to search this site shows basically everything thats avalible near me: http://pricespy.co.nz/... I was considering trying 2nd hand though most are pretty close to retail price anyway.

TLDR; What gpu would be best as a dedi physx card for a 1080 in borderlands 2

I strongly suggest you test it before committing to buying it

tests done with discrete PhysX cards showed the main video card will slow down for the PhysX calculations to complete - 750Ti is not a powerfull card

^ Which is why I decided to ask :P Though after looking a it the new 1050 is actually only around 250 nzd so I might consider getting that, do you think it would be powerful enough?

What version of PhysX is installed? It should be doing that because even on my 980 I ran that game just fine without drops like that.

Latest, are you running 1440p?

I do not know, don't recall anyone testing it with dual Pascals

I was on 1080p, but you have a 1080 which is twice as good.

Try reinstalling the PhysX drivers manually: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.16.0318-driver.html

Sure, but I doubt it will help. Been getting this through two driver upgrade and a few physx installs due to bug with another game. Im also doing these tests in caustic cavern as its meant to be quite demanding in there but still not doing anything special to that area.

Well I know sometimes the PhysX driver that comes with the whole Nvidia GPU driver package is sometimes not the proper one. I had an issue with Metro: Last Light's PhysX absolutely destroying my frame rate (like below 10 fps), so I did what I suggested for you to do and it fixed it.

Nope same results. Though physX does add some really insane stuff to borderlands 2, imo much more intensive than metro or batman (Eg vortexes and gun/liquid shrapnel) Ill get a screenshot...

Cant find any decent videos but here are two that are pretty good at showing it:

Basically all of that above ^ And then you have the vortexes that pick up all that stuff and throw it around like a black hole...

Which is kinda seen here but not really all that well:

That part of the game doesn't look familiar to me, so I guess that's why I don't remember having issues with the game's performance.

If you actually play that game a lot and want those effects, I would just get whatever Pascal card is the cheapest and dedicate it to PhysX rendering.
