What do you mean by wire? I don't know much on how to do DIY stuff like that. Would it be easy for someone to do?

It depends on the kit you get but ones like theses from superbright have all the connectors already in place it would just be a matter of cutting the LED strip to length.

this is what I own

but I wouldn't recommend them at all

too many wires, plus the default mounting hardware is shit, so I created my own from some lego technic pieces and screws

I think these make more sense

As brought up the Ikea ones are good if you don't mind doing a little DIY work you can get a kit off Amazon and cut and wire the LED's to length.

It depends on the kit you get but ones like theses from superbright have all the connectors already in place it would just be a matter of cutting the LED strip to length.

Thanks!

So so like actually cut it? I'm a little confused on how that will work because then one end won't have the required connector things. Or do I have to connect that myself? And if so how?

The other piece cut will require a new connector either by soldiering on a crimp on type if you plan to use that rest of the strip.

There are crimp on ones you can get all you need to do is to ensure the strips are cut at the appropriate cut points and any waterpoof silicone is removed before closing down the crimp. You will need some splitters for the controller though or to have some extension leads to daisy chain the strips together.

I have a general guide in the Modding FAQ that goes under Wiring LED's but I'm sure there are some video out there for hooking up LED's:

I'd go with this kit: https://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-5-Meter-Waterproof-Flexible-Changing/dp/B01ESJCXW6

The 5050 LEDs are brighter than the 3528's linked above. I have the 5050 kit and on full brightness its perfect for keeping the room dark but still being able to see what you are doing on the desk, any dimmer though and it would feel lacking IMO.

Its really hard to get a feel for it in the picture... but as an idea:

You could always go for the mega bling and just use an NZXT hue+ externally!

Get some adapters like this:
http://www.performance-pcs.com/usb-9-pin-internal-motherboard-male-header-to-usb-type-a-adaptor.html

and a power adapter, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/DIKOO-100-240V-5-5x2-1mm-Wireless-Controller/dp/B01HMCLBWE/ref=pd_lpo_23_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3C70X3WGZCR69QBFHT81

Not the cheapest, but about as flashy as you can get.

I watched the video and it started talking about some diffuser things. Do I need those?

That's an optional step, it mainly helps if you have a case where you can't really tuck them away and have direct line of sight to the LED's or have a lot of reflections from the bright spots.
