Watercool R9 390X2

StefanW

Hey guys!

I bought the "PowerColor Radeon R9 390x2" about a year ago and it runs pretty hot

and is very loud. So I was wondering if there is any way to watercool it?

Thanks.

You mean 2 R9 390X's right? I think EKWB or Alphacool has Blocks for your GPU (Don't quote me on this).

The 390x2 is a single PCB, dual 390 card.

No, this is a Dual GPU card. The EKWB configurator tool should be able to tell you if they make a block for it.

Sorry for not using only one post, but the edit part of the other post isn't working.

@StefanW There are no waterblocks for that card. However, it may be possible to use universal waterblocks with some small heatsinks for the VRMs and VRAM.

Yes, that is possible, although it would be wise to ensure there is room for everything since you would need 2 of them since there are 2 GPUs on this card. Also, if there is memory or VRMs between the chips you would have to ensure that they could be cooled as well even with water blocks potentially being in the way. This would be cool but definitely a more challenging build

The VRAM chips are so close to the GPUs themselves that I think you'd need to ziptie the blocks on and trim down the VRAM heatsinks to make them fit...

This card comes pre-watercooled, right? If I were OP I'd get two quality 120mm fans like Silent Wings 3 or some good SP fans from noctua and fit them on the 120mm rad in a push-pull config. Should be fine then :)

No, this card isn't pre-watercooled :/

Ah, okay, my bad! What is your case? If you improve case airflow it should be better with the heat&noise

apart from adding more fans, or increasing the speed of the fans in your case, there isn't much you can do.

All you can do is to configure your fan setup properly, buying quality airflow fans for exhaust and intake (if it's not crowded, if it is then you need SP fans) for optimal GPU airflow
