Your PSU is 80+ Gold certified. at maximum load, it is 87% Efficient

converting the full 650 Watts of power it is rated for, that amounts to 84 Watts of heat output. this is more than a core i5, and it's the reason that PSUs have heat sinks and fans.

Well, going from a Thermaltake TDP-0750M that has it's fan actively cool the unit to a RM650x that does not turn it's fan at low-mid loads, the housing may seem a bit hotter than what you are use to; afterall, the setup you have with a Asus GTX 1070 Strix is more than likely having the PSU operating in fanless mode.

 

To give you an idea how hot the internal components of a PSU can get during fanless mode on this 750w unit at 50% load (375wDC), scroll down to the bottom of this review.
