1080p on 1440p monitor?

How will games look if change the settings to 1080p on a 1440p monitor?

Not good. 1440p Is a multiple of 720, not 1080. 4k is a multiple of 1080. So it will look better scaled to 720.

It would probably look bad because the 1080p resolution would upscale to 1440p... Even if you set your monitor to 1080p, it would not be running at its native resolution.

The display would, more than likely, stretch the image to fit the screen. Because 1080p won't fit correctly, the image will look bad.
