What happened to assassin's creed? Last I heard they made some boring side scroller game.

Unfortunately, but I didn't exactly like the way it was headed anyway, I like the intense swordplay like in 1 and 2, but with lots of options like 3, or the newest one syndicate, unity had my favourite gameplay.

I know, that's why I said "Unfortunately" applying to that fact that, unfortunately it's not a game; everything I said.

It was given a hiatus after Syndicate was released. small projects and spin-offs here and there but that is all. the next big AAA assassin's creed game should be around 2017 or early 2018, perhaps after tom clancy wildlands comes out

Any idea on what the premise of the time period and story will be for it when it comes out? Like are there any leaks or something about it?

The rumour is that the next AC game will be set in ancient Egypt.

Here are some quotes from the supposed Ubisoft developer who was leaking information on 4chan:
