Nope. Install windows without activating and then contact customer support.

If you bought an oem key, it is tied to the mobo so if you replace the mobo u need to buy a new key. you can get win 10 pro oem key for 10$ on ebay (yes they are legit, bought 2 keys from ebay already)

i dont know if i have an oem key? i bought a pre built in 2013 and it had windows on it and then i upgraded it to windows 10 and now im here

Just enter the same key again and run the activation in Windows. If it won't activate online, use the phone activation. If that won't work, it'll redirect the call to a human and you can make your case. Just say this is a motherboard replacement to an old computer and not a new computer. They'll validate it no problem.

While the key is bound to the motherboard (or the CMOS ROM to be exact) for technical reasons (where else would it be secure? Duh.) It's not against the Windows EULA to swap your motherboard. You do not need to buy a new key. Assuming you bought this one, have the COA and so on and so forth.

Oh. Well, if you have a proof of purchase like a receipt you can get a new key from Microsoft. Leave the field blank on install and go to the activation once you're in the OS. You can find the phone number in there.

i try to reactivate my windows after a hardware change but it doesnt work? it says it cant connect to the microsoft servers or something. i have the error code 0x803F7001

That error is thrown when your product key is already in use.  You should really do a clean install of the OS.

So you changed all of your parts, and didn't think you should do a clean install of Windows?  Really?

So you think that Windows, your OS, that has each driver mapped to a hardware location in your machine, where its registry keys are memory mapped doesn't need to be massively reconfigured when you "change all your parts"?

You don't need to reinstall Windows if you're willing to sit down and do every bit of configuration that Windows does when you first install it, yourself.

This just boggles my mind.
