Maybe, but I would upgrade it anyway, as 8GB's is pretty much the standard these days (It wono't hurt anything). In order to know if it will help, we need to know how much you are using while running games. If you are at very close to full capacity, an upgrade will definitely help.

Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

thats what im doing for now until i get 1080 ti but im gaming on 6700k igpu with 32gb of ram you'll get aroung 60 fps on high settings in csgo but then again deppends on your cpu no AAA gaming unless on 720p

My PC is a fast boyo:

AFAIK, iGPUs can take advantage of system memory, not sure how much though. One thing you could do is go into BIOS and increase the amount of RAM the iGPU can use (I made a guide on this, you can check it out here).

I've had it enabled on 512mb for over a month, and I don't see any signs of it killing my system.

not literally the ram dedicated the to the gpu will mess with your performance it wont do anything for gaming performance

Faster memory will help. if it's 1333 mhz, you should upgraded to the highest speed your laptop supports, which is probably 1600, but might be 1866. I would dedicate at least 1 GB of memory to the IGPU.

Im using 4+2 1600mhz, i think an extra 4gb module would help

i didnt even notice :) upgrading the ram will permit you to play more games that require more ram and higher speed ram will help a tiny bit but know that ill tell you that windows will be using ram and if a game says it needs 4gb of ram and you only have 3.5 gb USABLE you'll have trouble

Many laptop bios don't allow you allocate more vram to the Intel HD Graphics, like it's my case with an Acer that locked the dedicated ram to the Intel HD Graphics 5500 on 128mb. So your benefit from adding ram would only help the CPU not the iGPU if that's the case, you should check if you can increase the dedicated graphic ram before considering adding more ram, because if you can't I personally don't see much benefit from doing so considering you already have 6gb and this is a casual gaming device.

Uh... that's a pretty different iGPU than the one the OP has... I wouldn't really say the performance of them is that easily comparable...

It might help a little. I did do some of my own tests a while back with my laptop's igpu. it has a i5 5200u. I ran some tests with 3dmarks skygate... cloud gate.... something like that. All the memory was 1600 mhz. I tested with 2 GB's dedicated to the gpu. I tested single 4GB stick, 4+2 GB sticks, and 4+4GB sticks. The difference between 4+2 and 4+4 was like 50-100 points every time. real world terms thats maybe 1fps gain.

I play on an iGPU atm, at least till I get Vega or something. I can tell you this! It's the speed that matters the most...aside from core frequency.

Increasing your ram doesn't give you much unless your video game does take up your entire system memory.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

Not really, lower end igpus only really use 512mb to a 1Gb of ram max, They are too slow to be able to utilize more. Most laptops have a limit to the ram frequency.

I would recommend 8gb of ram just to run windows and a web browser though.

It's not that it "can" take advantage of it. It's that it has to use system RAM. That is its primary means of storing data.
