I am a beginner when it comes to tech knowledge, so please. Someone enlighten me. I want to do something productive here in this forums and help people so.

What I need to know:

-Every single basic information about computers, tech, etc.

-How to determine which part is better

-What makes a good PC part

Just everything I need to help others.

He's right ^

Even me, who thought I was pretty good when it came to computers, quickly learned I wasn't with the stuff being posted on here, but now I've used the forums to gain more knowledge and I'm definitely much more educated than when I first joined here (quite ironic because i'd studied computing for 2 years before joining lmao)

Basically just hang around for a few days/weeks/months, read threads asking for help as you go, and you'll quickly pick up and learn things.

Spending an afternoon on Wikipedia will get you started. Google can take care of the rest.

These are actually subjective points with objective data. For example, you'd think graphics cards were all about how much FPS it can get. But what if I'm someone who wants the most efficiency? What if I don't care about heat/power draw? What if I want the most bang for my buck? What if I have disposable income? What if I want purple LEDS and white trim?

The one thing about computers is what does the user want? That's how you determine the best parts for them.

Same boat as you did :P. I not too long ago learned that 3840x2160 is part of the 4K resolution spectrum....

Mind blown, after most claimed it wasnt even considered 4K in reality. Its mostly poor or exaggerative comments of other users that leads to false mindsets that can eventually infuriate the more elucidated members of this community, with master degrees and phd's on various computer science areas. Or just someone whose fixing experience makes everyone else a minion in comparison...

Yeah some of the stuff on here i've had an inkling its been a bit not true so i've googled and then spent 15-20 minutes reading websites to make my own conclusion haha.

One day I might be one of those elucidated member, I'm currently studying towards my BSc (Honours) in Computing, that'll take me another 30 or so months. So another five years and I might be considered "smart" on here xD

Ahaha, well i suppose it may work, as long as you remenber the rules your being taught. I personally dont forsee myself as learning any of the topics discussed in here at school, since its just a 2 year course for a Cisco technician, but hey, its what my previous studies, past difficulties and overhaul monetary condition can afford :p. Gl tough.

I lean on the philosophy that arguing semantics when the lexicon has been established is a waste of energy. If the marketers consider 3840x2160 to be 4K, okay. But to constantly harp at people who say that and go "because it's not the DCI 4K" is going to generate friction and you'll be seen as that guy.

I mean, it's good to know, but you know, try telling firearms people "rimless ammo" doesn't exist.

The only time I find semantics more important is when you have to clearly define something.

What basics? Because you can learn much by getting a book. Yes, a book. Or just  watching some youtubers. Or reading PC magazines. Thats how I've got my knowledge. There is no easy or fast route as whole PC tech world is so wide.

As for parts. Read reviews. Thats the best way. If you end in situations where reviews don't provide info you need, post in forums to get some user experience. In time you gain knowledge of good brands, parts and what makes them good. But that too requires much of reading and watching.
