as i said before i already know that they would help with video editing, what im wanting to know is would the slightly slower clock speeds make my gaming experience noticably worse?

youre making this too complicated. 6800k because your editing and gaming

6700k if youre just gaming ONLY(which youre not)  Only about 5 fps difference.

Quite honestly though, the most efficient way to go would be with 2 980Tis in SLI as each 980Ti has 256 more cores (2560 for the 1080 and 2816 for the 980Ti) than even the 1080, so you would be gaining 512 cores for a 2-way sli config as well as having the room to go up to a 4-way config if you needed to in the future (if you really need 11264 CUDA cores or 5888 more than the max for the 1080s). Coupled withe the fact that you can find refurbished 980Tis on newegg for $345.99 or $399.99 you could get a 3-way sli config (and a gain of 3072 cores) before matching the price of the 1080 SLI setup. (note that the refurb'd card is currently out of stock though, I just included it as an example of the price for a card.)

MSI GTX 980Ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABRD54D2212     $399.99

GIGABYTE GTX 980Ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125832     $349.99

true. premire parallel rendering scaled extremely well as well. but 9890ti is not as effecient as 1080s.
