Hello all,

So I'm looking to pick up a new PSU because for what I have in mind my 700w just isn't going to cut it. I have one 290x on the way, going to grab another when I get my next paycheck, and then I'll be watercooling my whole rig. Final parts list will be

AMD FX 8350

R9-290x x2

Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0

16 GB (4x4) 1866  Skill Sniper series RAM

2 Adata 256GB SSds

1 Water cooling pump (D5 variant)

7-12 high static pressure fans. Haven't decided on final layout yet.

PC Part picker recommends an 830 watt PSU not accounting for overclocking or the fans and pump. I'm thinking 1000 watts is going to be a minimum here all things considered, but given how much of a power hog the 290xs will be is a Coolmaster V1000 enough or should I look for something higher?

I would really really love to do this, those sleeved kits are amazing, but i don't know if I can justify a total of $400 on JUST the PSU.

I have a friend with a RM1050, honestly I can't even hear the thing with my ear  right next to it, my Seasonic is another story lol

It's reallly not that absurd considering the parts, 8350s and 290xs are extremely power hungry especially when overclocked.

Even then, I'm pretty sure a good gold/plat 850w will be plenty.

I know PCPart Pickers wattage estimates aren't the gold standard or anything, but 850 is only 17 watts above their estimate and that before overclocking or adding 7-12 fans.

Fans don't use that much power and pcpartpicker like other calculators over calculate for the worse case scenario. The system should be fine oc'ed with a great 850w.

I personally would just wait for others to do power draw tests with watercooled 290x's but I highly doubt the whole system would be at 100% load in a real situation anyway.

Luckily, 1000w psus are in pretty much the same price range as a good 850w psu anyway so you can get one if it would make you feel more comfortable.

At least to answer your original question, a good 1000w psu should be more than enough.
