High Idle Temp 6700K

Hey, I dont know if this might sound a bit silly but i think my temps are a bit high on my 6700K.

I done an Asus overclock and think they maybe push a bit higher voltage than needed?

Here is a screenshot of my AI Suite. Does it look right? Idle at 37?

My cooler is a H80i GT.

37 C is fine for a 120mm AIO liquid cooler at idle.

That aint too bad, I'm sat at 4.6ghz (D.C 4790k) at 31C however I'm using custom loop 360 + 240mm and my GPU aint fitted at the moment

The more important value is your temperatures at a high load, preferably at 100%.

my cpu is at 25-20 degrees c at idle and I'm using the stock air cooler which is really not that good

Depends on CPU, overclock and voltage and whether you have speedstep enabled

Just ran Prime 95 small ffts and it hit 86-87 in no time, Fans ramped right up.

Well that's not great.

CPU at 87°C is not such a big problem, but the fact that it goes to 87°C in "no time" ... that's just not okay.

 

You need your max temp to be around 85°C after 30min of stress testing it. If it will be any higher, you need to turn down your OC.

I would reduce both your voltage and clock speeds, but start with your voltage first to see if you can maintain 4.6GHz while running a lower voltage.

How did you set your voltage? Or is it set to Auto? Are you using that program to adjust everything?

Under load CPU voltage is showing 1.408V

It was an Asus auto tune

Your voltage should be as low as you set it while maintaining complete stability, and if your voltage is not going low enough, eventually you will either need to accept the temperatures(and the associated degradation), or lower the overclock.

You might have a bad seat on the CPU. Those tubes are very stiff so if you don't mount the block with the cooler outside the case you won't get a flush mount and have bad contact. I had that issue when I first tried to install my h80i way back when and remounting it outside the case dropped my load temps like 20C.

 

I also recommend using the AIO as intake if you don't already have it.

The problem with that is that you will be increasing temperatures for everything else when that CPU gets hot.

True but the CPU is his current issue. If he has good airflow then the other components won't be a problem.

The cooler is set up as in intake but I don't think it's in best position always struggled to decide where too go. Temps on my GtX1080 have been great since I got it last month. Here is a picture of its mounting

where is it? A general rule of thumb (not always though) is the front and bottom of a case are best of intake (coolest air) and the top and back are best for exhaust (heat rises).
