Hi guys!

I've recently built my first server and put freenas on it.

In the near future I will probably go with ESXi and virtualise freenas on it but for now i've only got freenas.

I'd like to run my own WoW server on it so I can play around with it and maybe play with some friends.

Do you guys know if I can make it run in a freenas jail?

Thanks!

Here is what id do

Install centos on it

Use ZFS on linux(or something else if you want) for storage, then you can use samba shares.

Then use kvm with libvirt to run vm's

Freenas is bad with vms, and id stay away from running freenas in a vm(don't do it without vt-d, even with, id stay away from that)

BSD jails are good but they only run the host operating system kernel. If wow has a BSD server application i don't see why it can't be used in a jail. If there is no BSD server application then you will need to run it under Wine or use virtualisation for another operating system kernel.

two things:

1: freenas is a NAS-specific os, it's right in the name, it's not made for server tasks. (although, IIRC it has *some* VM-like thing that'd do what you need.)

2: WoW servers are a *REALLY* iffy topic on this forum, because it basicly implies software piracy.
