CPU and GPU pairing

Higen_

Hey, I'm wanting to build a computer and I would like to go with Intel but my budget is only around $800. If I were to go with Intel my main choice would be an i5 4670k just because I like newer things (call me stupid but whatever). If anyone has any recommendations as to what I should do, just let me know. Am I crazy? (likely so).  Should I go with Intel? Maybe AMD? Maybe a lower end Intel?

I can smell you

8320, 970 Asus, ASrock, or Gigabyte board, rest of budget on GPU.

For 800$ forget the 4670k, it's too expensive and you will have to cut on the GPU. A FX-6300 would allow a lot of budget for the GPU, or a FX-8320 if you want more cores. Don't go with lower-end Intel like i3s, the FX-6300 is an incredible value and will perform very well at a fraction of the price.

Well for your budget I'd definitely recommend a 7950.  It's easily the best performance-to-price card you can buy right now.  An 8320(OC) would be a good choice or if you could find a 2500K or 3570K for a cheaper price that would be a great choice as well.  Haswell didn't add too much more performance so since you need to work within this budget I'd find an Ivy Bridge cpu.

Are there any components you currently own and will be reusing?

i5-3570K @4.2ghz | Gigabyte Z77-DS3H | 16GB G. Skill Ripjaw 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 (2x8GB) | 120GB Vertex 3/640GB WD 7200RPM | AMD HD7950 @ 1025mhz | 600W Corsair CS600 | Hyper 212 CPU Cooler | 5x 120mm fans 79cfm | Ultra Defender Case

It depends on what you're doing. Both AMD and Intel have their place.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
