All throughout these forms I have seen people quoting the first post to respond to it. This always annoyed me because I also though that the person that created the thread wanted responses on the thing described in the first post, so it would be given that all thread posts would have to do with the original post, so quoting it is redundent.

What do you guys think, does this annoying you or should I be doing it too?

When a thread reaches a couple pages, coming in and saying something related to the first post without quoting might cause confusion as to what exactly you're replying to.

Thats not what I'm talking about. Its usually the first reply!

FWI, I do get notifications on the website when you make a post on my thread, I also get one when you quote me.

I do it when I'm going to reply to something specific, often cutting out other clutter. It's just to make the conversation easier to follow, so I don't do it if my reply is one of the first in the thread, or if I'm making a more general reply to what OP posted.

I do it sometimes. Usually when its long text and I want to snip just part of it. Or if its post without replies after few days. But I must say I hate when people do it for longs posts. And more when they do it for LMG or admin/mod level announcements.

I occasionally do it on accident, but I only do it intentionally when there's a specific thing I'm responding to or the conversation has diverged quite a bit from the original topic.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

I don't have an issue with it.

As a thread gets longer the topic usually deviates and someone a little late to the conversation may only be interested in responding to the original post, or multiple post to include the original.  Quoting the original in this case is probably the best to highlight what specifically you are responding to.

Also if an original post is somewhat long or has multiple points made/asked then quoting specific parts of that posts allows the person replying to cut to the individual element(s) they are responding to.
