Hello LTT Community. My name is Joe, me and my partner Kerri are working on an project, for the engineering class we take at Cape May County Technical High School. For the project we decided to make a case thats modular, and portable, while also being able to support full mod-ability. WE also want to incorporate the most amount of power possible, while still making it possible to take on business trips, or on vacation. The project will be finished around June of 2017. Thanks for the support guys. If you're interested in the project, as the project gets going, i may or may not set up a small pattern page, to pay for testing parts, otherwise it will be coming out of our pockets. Im not making a guarantee that it'll be sold one day, but, theirs always the possibility. -Joe and Kerri

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

anyways, mobile computers for me have always been about the portability, working at school or work or home, but I'm not the kind of person to whip out a laptop on a bus.

for my laptop use, I always have a mouse and charger with me. for something like what you are proposing, the main issue would be weight. a Mini-ITX form factor is easy to carry like a briefcase, but sticking a monitor on it will make it quite heavy.

Isn't a mobile, all in one desktop PC just a laptop?

I think the idea is to have desktop performance and stability.

I have had many issues with older laptops being slow, hot and clunky, with tiny ass drives that love to fail and slow down everything. this would be upgradable, use desktop parts and have a proper cooling system

Well this will be more aimed at taking it on vacation, and setting it up, with what we have planned, it will require wall power. As for the monitor, we have something in the works.

Have you used something like a dell precision. There basically exactly that. Fast, cool, quiet, and much more portable than anything you could build.

so, in other words, a mini ITX PC... the only difference here is that you are trying to build a monitor into the case, which has been done, and is a little more awkward than it is worth.

especially because higher-end hotel rooms have TVs that can be used as a monitor

My dad has a XPS 15, the only issue he has is drive space (he opted for bigger battery instead of 2.5" drive space, so he's stuck with the 512GB M.2)

well they're made for work. Were going after the gaming community, but as per the class, were extending it to some actual work. Its just a case as well. No actual computer parts come with it. ITs just a modular case.

Not necessarily a mini ITX. were gonna try and make it as fast with the least amount of weight. Well see how it goes.

I mean, all mini ITX does is slightly increase the cost of lower end motherboards and limit you to one GPU, it has no direct impact on speed.

We dont want to limit it to one GPU. If we can were gonna fit more then one GPU in there. What might end up happening is having a PCIE slot extender so the GPU can be at a different part.

They are called PCIe x16 Riser cables btw

Yes, them then. And if it were to ever to be sold, personally, i would include one,  or however many GPU you're gonna get in them. I feel as if that would look bad if you had to buy that youerself, considering it would require it. No promises. As with anything i say with selling this thing. No promises.
