The base version of the RX 480 has 4GB VRAM GDDR5. That is a decent amount. While it cant do 4K gaming,  it is still up to times.

The higher end has 8GB GDDR5 VRAM and claims to be VR and 4K ready.

4GB = $200

8GB = $250

Should you buy 2 4GB ones and do Crossfire, or just the 8GB one. And what circumstance would either shine in?

...That's not how VRAM works in crossfire.

If you go crossfire, the amount of ram isn't doubled. What happens is that both cards have the exact same data in their VRAM.

They are perfect clones, every card has 100% of the data, not 50/50.

I would say if you are planning to keep them max 2-3 years, go 4GB.

Are you planning to keep them longer, go 8GB.
