My friend want's to build his first physical gaming pc ( he has made a lot of online build suggestions). He want's to do video editing and gaming. I think his gpu and cpu are great picks but his mobo and ram are not. Any good lga 1151 recommendations and nice ddr4 ram with a pretty high clock-speed? I don't want him to have a micro atx board as his first build. He doesn't have any space issues and I wish he could have an aio water cooler for his cpu but it's his first build and don't want him to mess anything up. I think even for regualr 1080p video editing i think 4tb is a lot and expensive but what do you guys think? I also think a Sandisk or Samsung ssd would benefit him a lot more at this price point. He's new to pc building so don't go hard on him haha. I have a lot of my own suggestions but would like to see what the community has in store.

I might get hate for this suggestion, the MSI X99 S SLI Krait Edition is a pretty good board, I have the Z97 version myself

As for the RAM anything from corsair? or a heat spreader lol

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

it's a non OCable 6700, the Z170 is useless since you can't OC and the X99 isn't even compatible.

sorry didn't really look closely at it

What res?

Also I'd probably get a slightly better PSU if I'm remembering the right one.

4 TB is a ridiculous amount. Get a 250 GB MX300 and a 1TB WD Blue.

32 GB? 16 is fine for editing, 24 is overkill but 32 is ridiculous.

well I've used around 17gb while editing and using various other tools so I don't see it being that much of a waste. It also might be me using ddr3 clocked in at 1600mhz

Is this just the application memory or total RAM usage? Windows likes to cache any and all RAM you've got.

i've dedicated 24gb to premiere and it is total usage but i am running premiere and after effects with stuff like a bunch of chrome tabs and audio software like audacity and elgato sound recording

and I've used around 12gb of ram using premiere while having the display 1/1 while editing with a bunch of effects.

I would Highly suggest telling your friend to first add a cpu cooler to that rig and maybe a couple of fans. There are a few things missing from that list that are needed to even build a decent pc. And 2 I would suggest a Gigabyte G1 Motherboard. 4tb Isn't needed at all. At max i would suggest a 3tb or even getting a 2 T and getting a external hardrive. The ram isn't that overkill. Your going to need a good a bit of it so...

I want him to get a nice 1440p monitor. I like the overall build and I'd build the same thing If i had the money haha. I like the unlocked cpu and will show him how to overclock if he wants to. do you think a evo 850 will be better than the a data premiere ssd?

you can get less ram, 16-24gb should be enough. can drop the storage down to a 240gb ssd and 2tb hdd if he thinks its enough(he can just add more if he really runs out). can also get the cheaper cryorig H5/7 and sacrifice abit of cooling performance. the 850 evo will be better but it will be much more expensive. i'd recommend a crucial mx300/hynix sl308 for good speed at a decent price.
