This is a good table to start looking at. It even highlights values that you should look for in case of impending drive failure.

Hi there :)

My two cents:

the S.M.A.R.T. data looks OK and your drive seems healthy. What's the drive's brand and model? I would use a diagnostic tool from the manufacturer and see if the drive passes its tests.

You could run chkdsk /r from the cmd on that drive fora full surface scan and see if the PC has troubles reading data from any sectors.

Try going to the manufacturer's website and download the diagnostic tool provided by them. If the drive passes its tests it should be safe to use.

If the drive has been in use for quite some time it may have worn out and started to produce more noise. Also, check if the drive is mounted properly as there may be some resonance between it and the case, causing excessive noise. Check if this noise continues when the drive works outside the case.

I would contact the manufacturer and see what the guys there have to say about this. Even though the S.M.A.R.T. status shows no issues it's good to check the drive with a tool from the manufacturer.

i finally managed to download crystal disk info it shows this

i currently have 231GB of data stored on this drive, i do have a 2.5" seagate hybrid drive, should i back the drive up to this as a precautionary measure?

Captian_WD knows his stuff. If he says it's good, it's probably good for a while. The thing that's causing the "caution" in crystal disk info is the reallocated sectors count. You currently have 2. If that number continues to grow, then I'd be weary and backup your data. If it's stable, then you're probably good.

The application indicates that you have 2 sectors that have been reallocated due to the fact that the drive had issues reading from those two sectors. This isn't a good thing as more of these sectors will eventually start to appear and the drive will eventually fail.

I'd recommend backing up your data to another drive just to be on the safe side. As @corrado33 suggested, monitor this drive and see if this count increases and if yes - how fast.

It is strange that the other tool doesn't report these two sectors.

It seems that the drive is going to fail sooner rather than later.

You may attempt running chkdsk /r from the cmd and see if the drive can isolate the problematic sectors and prolong the drive's life a bit but I would still try to swap this drive ASAP with a replacement. I wouldn't trust this drive with data that you can't afford to lose.

Glad to hear that. You should be fine until then.

In the future try to keep your data backed up so you don't face any data recovery situations.
