1060 best performance

480 while having less performance by a margin i say 5-10 fps difference 1060 is more expensive 50-60$

Your choice if spending that extra 60$ is worth the performance

Depends what games you want to play.

GTX1060 = DirectX 11/10/9 games. Shit that's already out.

RX480 = DirectX12/Vulcun. Shit that's coming out.

idk

1060 6GB is even better then the 8GB version of the 480. People will come with the DX 12 support, what is true and AMD catches up or sometimes goes beyond with a few fps. But DX 12 is overall performing less then DX11 and there the gap between the 1060 6GB and 480 8GB is much bigger. So overall the 1060 is the better performer + much more energy efficient if thats a factor for you.

True that more Vram is overall prefered, but if a card is fast enough to deal with the performance for it's intended purpose (what is the case when comparing these 2) you get in the old situation that where you would encounter the Vram issue with thse cards you would need a better tier card anyway. Also there is more to the story of performance then just looking at total ammount of Vram.

Around here pricing is close enough together that the choice is easy enough.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

You forgot to mention that "Shit that's comming out" will have bad optimisation for DX12 and will be still better to play in DX 11.

Get the GTX 1060 6GB version and you are golden.

Yap, that's why I think GTX 1060 is still better.

DX12 will take few years ebfore it will be well optimised and acctually perform better than DX11.

The RX 480 8GB is a very good option here, either way you are getting a very good card no matter which one you choose

Both are great. It depends most on what the price difference is for where you live. The 1060 is the better overall choice, but it's no huge difference of day and night. If either of these cards would not suffice for something, then also won't the other and you would need a better tier card anyway. Some people wil come up with the fact that AMD does DX12 more efficient. This makes it come on par for many situations or only slightly ahead and currently most DX12 supported games run better on DX11 anyway. It will be some years before we can really make good use fo the potential of DX12 (like it also was with earlier DX changes). By then both these cards are already replaced by newer gens.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.
