That's the evo 212 max fan speed with mx4 thermal paste during prime95 max heat test.

Im aware its not this high during normal max load and only during prime95 max heat test, however it still reaches 75c in programs at 100% fan speed.

I knew i wasn't going to be able to overclock with the evo 212 but i expected a little bit better.

I also reapplied thermal paste and reseated the cooler so that's not the problem.

So what cooler should i get? Im too pussy for water cooling so im thinking one of the massive noctua coolers?

Are your motherboard settings set to default?

What are your specs and how is your cooling laid out?

Moved to Air Cooling.

Those numbers seem odd to me as the evo should be more than enough for stock speeds on an i7, heck on my 4790k I can overclock to 4.6 and still be under 80C (I don't have the evo but a similar performance wise cooler maybe 2-3 degrees better in certain situations)

But 75C just using basic programs is high, though prime 95 isn't a realistic test

no way that's stock speeds, the voltage is at 1.378 max, suggesting an overclock of 4.6GHz +

Well then why did he say this

Also some motherboards overvolt stupidly, mine for instance sets stock voltage around 1.3 on a haswell system

And his speed is 4.2Ghz which is stock turbo I believe

ok maybe the motherboard is stupid, i suggest setting a manual voltage

That would be the case. It has been like that since Haswell. Auto-voltage is using much more than needed when under hard stress. Thats also why P95 was "banned" from use with Haswell and Devils Canyon CPUs. Imo its outdated software anyway, but with manual voltage those temps should be more reasonable.
