these are rubbish that they put in pre-built systems because they are cheap. Get an SSD and buy a large hard drive later when you run out of space on the SSD

I'd also get a cheaper single 8GB stick of RAM so you can upgrade later if need be. Performance is the same.

Remove the CPU cooler for now, get an SSD for boot times and if you can, invest in a Z170 mobo for future upgrades such as a 6600k or 6700k if you want to go that far. And yes, in the future get an aftermarket cpu cooler.

Dare I say it but would he be better off with an AMD A10 or A8 with a AMD GPU? I actually really like what they have done with the A10 and it should give him better performance than a console

Nah the i3-6100 is better than any APU that you can find today for the purposes of gaming with a discrete GPU. It's a bit more expensive but I think the expenditure is justified.

Ive had both black and blue in the past. The difference is noticeable and the black doesn't cost much more. But you're right rubbish is a bit harsh, Its not like the green editions that killed themselves when plugged into Windows
