What do you use for converting audio files?

I want to convert most of my lossless music collection to something like a 256 or 320kbps MP3. I need to fit a lot on this tiny 16GB flash drive so I can use it in the car. I'm curious as to what I can use to convert several files at once to a different format.

I use Sony Vegas but it's a lot of money for just converting audio

I use Foobar2000. If you get the converter download package you can convert yourself to basically anything with that. :)
