Hello guys, I'm pretty new to the whole audio/sound area. I have always just used some cheap gaming headsets. But now i want to upgrade to the Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250 Ohm, but i'm not sure which amp to get.

I have a few options

#1 : Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD Lydkort (114 dB, 96 kHz max not sure the amount of Ohm)

#2 : Optoma NuForce uDAC 3 (98 dB, 96 kHz max and 16 Ohm)

#3 : FiiO E10K Olympus 2 (105 dB, 96 kHz max and 16-150 Ohm)

If you guys have any other suggestions feel free link them. It must be said that I live in Denmark, so I will not purchase anything from the US because of the import tax.

Why are you even looking at an amp?

Also, don't get a creative amp if you do get one. They're terrible.

As far as I'm concerned you will need a AMP for a headset that is 250 Ohm. Otherwise it might not live up to it's full potential. Since i only have the basic integrated sound card in my Motherboard.

This is the information i got from alot of other forums, they just never gave any specifics.

Okay, well, they're wrong. You only need an amp if your onboard doesn't have enough power for your headphones.

I wasn't really talking about the x7 in this context (there's no way OP is spending $400+ on an amp/DAC if they're getting DT990s.)

It's just that their lower end (and especially portable) stuff doesn't sound anywhere near as good as other options for a comparable price.

I haven't listened to the X7 though, so I have no opinion on it.

I have owned many of their lower end products or when I did builds for people I have many go thru my hands

just wondering what do you have against their amps,

I have owned prolly over dozen products from them

I do know many older products were shit

I don't have anything against their amps. They just don't sound as good as other products from other companies in the same price range. That's all there is to it.

As far as i know it is "Realtek ALC892"

Motherboard is MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Socket-1150

did you get the headphones yet?

cuz no need to spend if you dont need to

i'd personally get the headphones first and see if onboard does it, they arent that tough to drive unless you want vss or just more power for the future

I have the DT770 250 Ohm and Fiio E10K, it arrived yesterday. After a couple of hours of listening to music, it is definitely good enough at a decent price. However, I'm still not satisfied and personally feel like they're not being powered to its full potential so I'm on the hunt for another DAC/AMP. I may be overlooking things though :P

But overall, they're definitely enough to power the DT990's.

I of course want it to perform to the fullest. And since I have never tried them with or without I just thought I would get safe.

personally I'd buy them first and go from there

the soundstage on them might just rock your world for awhile and go from there

no need to spend money on something you might not really need for your uses
