I don't think you understand the agony of having to use a laptop AMD APU for more than a year. just wait. trust me. don't spend $100 of your hard earned money on a CPU that you MIGHT get $60 for in a month when you have to sell it to get a 6700K. go with a 6600K anyways, you'll have a great gaming experience. 6700(K)s are only needed for content creation and such

[edit] I know a lot of people that stream and make youtube videos using an i5 also

Will the CPU work properly?
Keeping in mind the motherboard is ASUS Z170-A.

Get a Core i5-6500.Because i3 6100 only have dual core and will bottleneck some video card.

So I put my money in a good motherboard so i can upgrade to the i7 in a few months

just wait a few months then and save the $120 you'd be spending on the i3. if you're surviving now you can probably survive a bit longer

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

[Under Construction]

My Truck --- 2002 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke || 6-speed

My Car --- 2006 Mustang GT || 5-speed || BBK LTs, O/R X, MBRP Cat-back || BBK Lowering Springs, LCAs || 2007 GT500 wheels w/ 245s/285s

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

I don't think you understand the agony of having to use an AMD APU for a  year.

I've been using the APU for more than a year now, and it's not fun I tell you.

I had a A6-3600 for the longest time then I upgraded to a fx6300 about a year or two ago, now I'm upgrading to kaby lake. I know you want to upgrade right away but I learned after buying a fx6300 that buying the cheapest thing to get you a slight upgrade is a terrible idea. you should wait for a 7600k or whatever kaby lake has to offer that interests you.

Only a few percent performance increase over Skylake. I don't think its something to write home about.

@OP just stash the money until you have enough for an i5-6600k. I wont recommend the i7-6700/k if you'll just use it for games as there is very little performance increase over the 6600k which costs less. For gaming, I wouldn't go much higher than a 6600k.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600k 4.4GHz | Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z270F Gaming | Cooler: Cryorig H7 | RAM: GSkill Ripjaws V 8GB 2x4 3200 MHz | GPU: MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X | PSU: Seasonic G-550w 80+ Gold Certified, Semi Modular | Storage: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO, 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue | Case: NZXT S340 Elite (Black/Red) | Monitor: BenQ XL2411 144hz | Keyboard: Corsair STRAFE RGB Cherry MX Silent | Mouse: Corsair M65 Pro RGB

I'd like to make a Chemistry joke, but all the good ones ARGON. *nudgenudge *winkwink
