Taking Notes

In all the time I have been in school I have yet to take any notes for a class. I will do them if they provide me a sheet that they go through in class. But outside of that never. Is this bad? My grades aren't bad, but I fear in college if I don't I will fail every class.

Just keeping this here as a IMO its about how you learn. For some things notes are useless for me and a waste of time. Anything that requires a lot of abstract thinking (Calculus, High level algebra) it significantly helps me to make notes. I think its all about finding the way you study best and for me its usually go on LTT and chill lol, but for the stuff waaaaay ahead of my grade level notes help me a lot

In math specifically I usually am too focused on writing something down and miss something they say and am clueless

When you go to University (like a major university not a junior college) class sizes can be HUGE until you get to the harder subjects in your specific field. Speaking of harder subjects, most university classes are much harder and stricter than highschool classes are. Teachers do not have the time, nor the capability, to help clarify things for you during class, however most are more than willing to help you during other times. That being said, some teachers (especially history teachers) will not help you if you can't show them your notes, atleast in my experience.

I would suggest that you learn how to take notes, but that's just me.

I am not implying this at all. I am saying as of now I haven't taken notes and have done fine without them. I am just concerned once I start college I will need to take notes.

Well different people learn differently.

I'd say the courses are too easy for you.

Until you take a harder course, you will never know how you learn best.

College/Univ is 100x harder then Highschool.

 

You could probably video tape the courses if you got a nice field of view.

Or you could audio tape the courses.

Don't try to stick to a format, do what works for you. 

 

For my history classes I take notes in MS Word using the structuring that they provide. For Example:

 

1. fsidahflkjdhalkjdshfkjhsd

         a.  fakjhfashdlkjfahdsfkjh

                i. dfasdfasdfasdfasdf

                ii. dsdfsdfsdfsdfsdfsdf

 

There isn't really anything that needs diagrams and stuff in history lectures. When studying for midterms I compile all my notes into one word document and just ctrl+f the information I am looking for. I find typing much faster than writing as well, and you probably can type pretty well based on the forum you're on. 

 

For math and physics classes I take notes in a notebook with a somewhat similar structure but is much more free flowing.
