So, I've been considering getting the Razer Blade for some time now. Since it is so light and portable, I figured that it would be the best laptop for college that I could get. However, I have been waiting to get it because we have all heard of the CPU throttling. That being said, the new Alienware 13 just got put up for sale. There are no reports for throttling, but it is a bit bulkier and the fans start up more often. That being said, what laptop would you recommend? I'm looking for responses from people who have had experience with these computers, that way I don't just run into people claiming the Razer Blade has heat problems without providing proof. Also, does anyone have the Late 2016 Razer Blade and care to comment on the throttling?

I was in this same predicament and I ended up going with the Alienware. The screen is beautiful, it's heavy, but has decent battery and very powerful for it's size and it's cheaper for identical specs. The only thing that the Razer really has over it is aesthetics. So in the end you get more bang for your buck and you don't have to deal Razer's awful customer service.

Here's some vids, the first is a really good concise review and the other is gameplay on the Alienware 13.

I have fixed (or tried to) every single blade model expect the 1060 model, but you only need to do a 10 sec search on youtube and you find this, so nice 93c+, the GPU starts to thermal throttle at 82-83c, yet the cooling is so shit that it cannot get the temps down.

That is not even the only thing that is wrong with them, Razer has zero QC on their laptops, I have had a guy come to me because his brand new blade wouldn't start up. gr8 m8.

Razer support is useless and only want to get more money out of you, so even if the problem is their fault, they will try and charge you. Their lifespand is so insanely short, you would be lucky to get two years out of one. A well cooled laptop has a lifespand of about 4-5 years normally, but with a razer it is more normal to get 8 months to 1,5 years, from what I have seen atleast.

The AW13 is a much better option, way better support, has QC, well cooled from what I have seen

The Alienware 13 is pretty sick. Quad Core in a 13-inch, GTX 1060, two M.2 slots and then theres that screen!

The Razer Blade is not availible in my country, but I'd probably get the Alienware anyway if it was.

Yes the AW13 is bulkier, but I'd prefer the size difference with the better thermals / noise output.

I've just been reading that razer is power starving the 1060 to keep temps down.

Same. I'm reading about the hybrid power issue. But I'm also reading hybrid power issues on the AW15

For gaming the New Alienware 13 is the better choice overall. The Razer Blade is a productivity laptop first, gaming second. New Alienware 13 is heavier and cooler, Razer Blade is much lighter but runs hotter(the video above shows a pre-production model which are know to perform worse, it still gets pretty hot but not THAT hot). I would personally go with the New Alienware 13.

It gets that hot. So Razer power throttles the 1060 to make it run shit (cause thermals). And also you should never close your lid when having it active cause it damages the screen due to heat.
