No idea, they didn't explicitly say if it applied after release.

The base game is better and with 64, bit it's capable of surpassing the original skyrim in terms of mods.

Except there's already hundreds of mods out for it including ENB so it's like taking the better looks to even greater heights.

This is actually a nice refresh for PC gamers too since the app is now 64 bit native and can handle far more memory so mods can be made to make it look even better since the main constrains where always crashes and instability due to the memory issues of the original game.

Personally I think that it looks a bit jarring out of the box: I started a new character this morning for like 1 hour before coming to work and the lighting effects are fairly nice looking, I'd say about what the midrange ENB mods have accomplished previously, however the textures and meshes particularly on characters still look like fucking shit. It's disconcerning to watch this beautiful background with light shafts, soft shadows, etc. and then look at the NPCs that look like they were hit with fucking rocks since they're so pixelated and low detail.

However it's been hours and plenty of mods are being ported over it will be little to no time before many of the texture and mesh mods make their way and it will look extremely nice, and well it's free if you had/buy the expansions today.

True in many respects, however being able to have 1100+ actors without the game instantly crashing is a big improvement for the engine which the 32bit version of skyrim didn't have a chance in hell of pulling off, even with ENBoost.  Might be able to get some truly huge skirmishes with this release(once modded naturally).

It's because all of the additions were subtle, but I was able to notice more clutter on the road and a different lighting model. And then there's this:

I don't have any stuttering on my end, but then again I have a high-end video card.

Because SLI isn't a free lunch. NVIDIA needs to add a profile before it becomes properly supported. I believe AMD has the same problem with Crossfire.

It looks okay to me. Fog and lighting are considerably better, and so are the textures, though you could probably find a better texture mod for the original Skyrim. It also dropped 32-bit support, which I don't think is a bad thing - it can take advantage of PCs with more RAM, which is great with mods. There's also some other things (rain doesn't go through roofs, godrays, etc.) that just makes it seem more modern.

A lot of the special effects are still kind of meh, a little bit. There's still only the same 5 or so voice actors that act for 60% or so of the NPCs, which gets annoying fast, though I doubt they'd change that. The quality for some of the sounds is awful; I'm no audiophile, but it sticks out like a sore thumb when I pickpocket coins.

It also seemed like a few things were changed as well - armor is apparently reequipped after Beast Form.

In all honesty this is just Bethesda trying to recoup some IRAD spending on the "PS4/XB1 port" of Skyrim they did internally way back when, so expecting some kind of "next-gen" update is asking too much.

EDIT: Here's an article saying they did a port as an internal thing - http://www.gamespot.com/articles/bethesda-ported-skyrim-to-xbox-one-but-only-as-a-t/1100-6431961/

What does IRAD mean?

That seems odd to make a port/slightly enhanced version and not a full PS4/Xbox One level remaster if Skyrim is clearly as popular as it seems to be.

Or better yet a new Elder Scrolls game.  Fans would go crazy if that happened but nope.  Instead they waste time on things like porting Dishonored to current consoles without doing anything to it.  Pretty sure they didn't anyway.  I think I'd found some article that basically showed they literally did nothing except make it work on a PS4/Xbox One.

It's at least sort of nice that we get a tweaked Skyrim that improves some things from what Moonspot and Kavawuvi have said.  But I'm concerned that Bethesda is falling into the habit of "how can we make money while being as lazy and doing as little work as possible?".

That was a lot of companies in the beginning of the generation with their HD remasters and their Definitive Editions. I dunno, the thing to me is Skyrim was already pretty. Aside from adding more clutter to the scenery, what else could you do? Add an ENB like lighting filter? ENB was really the only thing that made Skyrim look "better"

Because the binaries used will be similar to FO4. It will lack some features that old Skyrim used.
