I'm currently using a Dell E2414H as my main display, which is a TN LCD panel. I want to get another monitor of the same size to accompany it. However, the one I'm looking at is IPS LED. I've heard that IPS is better than TN. Is that true? What are the differences? And will they look noticeably different right next to each other?

The main problem I have with TN is that when you get to a sufficiently large enough size (24" for a typical monitor viewing distance), you see the color shifting no matter how you look at the monitor. I find this distracting.

In my experience, they don't look very different, even next to each other.... for a bit. After looking at them a little while, however, the color on the IPS will start to look much richer, and the TN... not so much. I absolutely LOVE my IPS monitor, but if I already had a TN, perhaps I would not pair it with one. Just my two cents.

after using IPS for a while now, i don't think i can go back to TN. this is for monitors though - TVs are different

but there are a few TN monitors that can "pop" like IPS when calibrated properly , but miss out on viewing angles

I'm going to be using the IPS as my new primary and the TN panel as a secondary. Meaning they won't be displaying the same thing most of the time. So I think as long as the brightnesses are similar it should look fine.
